Volunteer Spotlight: Debbie

You might have seen some of Debbie’s beautiful handmade crafts at one of Candlelighters’ events! Debbie has been involved with Candlelighters for the past six months. She first discovered Candlelighters while searching for an organization that served children and families with cancer. She connected with Candlelighters’ mission to support not only the served child, but also the entire family.

Debbie loves being creative and making things. So far, she has donated handmade crocheted teddy bears, pumpkins, beanies, book buddies, painted rocks, notebooks, bracelets and necklaces. Each item Debbie has donated is made with such care and attention to detail. In the future, Debbie will also be hosting a hands-on arts and crafts event for Candlelighters!

When it comes to her work with Candlelighters, Debbie’s favorite part is coming up with ideas, acting on them and then bringing the items to the Candlelighters office. While making her crafts, she always keeps the families and children who will receive them in her thoughts.

To anyone considering volunteering with Candlelighters, Debbie offers the following advice, “We are all born with a talent. Our purpose is to find a place to demonstrate that talent. Our job is to lift others up who are in the worst circumstances of their lives. This is our ultimate purpose in living. Nothing gives you more joy in life than helping others.”
