Supporters Come in All Ages: Meet Vivian
Meet Vivian, a recent graduate from the Rachel Carson Middle School School of Environmental Science. As part of a school action project, students were asked to find a meaningful way to support an organization of their choice. After learning more about Candlelighters and our mission to support children with cancer and their families, Vivian chose to focus her project on Candlelighters.
For the research paper component of the project, she did her due diligence exploring “the different types of cancer, how to prevent them, statistics and how much funding and research is done on them.” For the presentation portion, Vivian shared her findings with the 5th grade class and inspired the students to get involved by writing heartfelt thank-you cards to children at Doernbecher at OHSU which were very well received!
In addition to Vivian’s research and outreach, Vivian organized both a snack cart and beside buddy drive to provide comfort items for the pediatric oncology children in the hospital. She also volunteered at the recent Candlelighters’ Family Day event, personally aiding in the creation of a fun, supportive, and safe atmosphere for families facing childhood cancer.
Thank you, Vivian! We are lucky to have you as a dedicated supporter.
