It’s hard to believe that this cycling fundraiser, Candlelighters oldest and largest, started with one man riding to honor the memory of his daughter 20 years ago.
From June 18 – September 19, 20 cyclists of all levels rode and/or fundraised for local families facing childhood cancer while cheered and motivated by this year’s courageous Honored Children. We had options for all levels of riders to go at their own pace and distance with our pledge to ride model and website.
On the last weekend of the fundraiser, a group of ten cyclists, 4 Candlelighters staff and one very gracious volunteer, rode in the Cycle Oregon Tygh Valley Rally. Â Many riders sent messages to the Honored Children, rode in honor of them, supported each other throughout your rides, participated in the “ride it your way”, or volunteered, and for all of this, we are so thankful.
Ride For A Child continues to be Candlelighters largest fundraising event because of it’s loyal and selfless supporters. Their efforts ensure that we continue to provide meaningful and important programs and services to Candlelighters families throughout the year. Particularly in 2021, we are seeing a higher than normal request for emergency financial assistance (EFA) and a greater need for families to come together in community during this continued pandemic. Funds from Ride For A Child not only supports our EFA, but it also allows us the opportunity to provide safe and creative ways to bring community to the Candlelighters families throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Although the miles tracking part of this year’s event has ended, we are still looking to hit our fundraising goal, and are accepting donations through the end of the 2021.
