Meet Tatiana! Tatiana, now three, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a type of kidney cancer, in August of 2021, and is currently in treatment.
Tatiana’s favorite toys are Minnie Mouse, Frozen, musical toys, and unicorns, and she likes looking at books. She enjoys watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Minnie Mouse. She is starting to show interest in Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, and Cocomelon. As for food, she loves beans, any kind of berries (black berries, blue berries, raspberries, and strawberries), tamales, chicken, chicken nuggets, cheese, chocolate, chips, and loves water and almond milk.
Tatiana is the youngest of 3 children. Her siblings are Giovanni and Daniela. and the family enjoys cooking, eating and watching movies together. Sundays are particularly special, as they attend mass together weekly.
Like many families, when Tatiana was diagnosed, her mom, Juana left her job to care for her full time. For the family of five, this was one the adjustments that came with a cancer diagnosis. Still, Jauna says that it has made them us slow down and appreciate life and it’s blessings more closely. Her advice to other families facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis?
“Focus on the positives, and make sure to not live in fear…I have always believed God is in control. We cannot control life and its outcomes. We can only control our thoughts, beliefs and emotions.” Juana’s first priority is to see her daughter live, and she is creating the most loving and comforting environment for her to do so.
As far as Candlelighters activities, Jauan says Tatiana’s favorite thing about Candy Cane Lane was getting to see Elsa and take a picture with her. She loved seeing Santa and then coming home to open her gifts.
