Meet Aidyn

Meet Aidyn, Candlelighters Programs intern, cancer survivor and Luminaries member,

“My name is Aidyn Reed and I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 14 years old. I went into Randall Children’s Hospital with kidney and heart failure and got diagnosed a week later with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I went through 2 years and 4 months of chemotherapy and completed my last treatment on February 13th 2022. I’ve dealt with bone decay in both my hips and my shoulders and I’m going in for full hip replacements this summer. I started this fight freshman year of high school and at 17, I’m now headed into my senior year.

The Luminaries

I want to intern at Candlelighters because the Luminaries Teen Support Group helped me find other people going through similar things to me. Candlelighters made me feel less isolated in my experiences and showed me that I wasn’t alone in my struggles. I now have friends who know what it’s like to fight this fight and they’ve celebrated every milestone with me. I’m so grateful for all of the love and support I’ve received from Candlelighters and I’m looking to help give back to this amazing organization during my internship.”
