Ride for a Child 2022
Painted HillsRide for a Child News: That’s a wrap!

For the riding, at least. Fundraising will continue, even as the Ride For A Child 2022 cyclists finished the 7 day Cycle Oregon Classic  through the magnificent Painted Hills on September 10-17, 2022. Each cyclist covered 272-443 miles, and climbed elevations of 15,282-35,245 feet. As the cyclists return and recover from their seven day tour, they will continue to stretch their fundraising muscles to reach the $195,000 goal. This is Candlelighters biggest and longest-running fundraiser.

Ride Out 2022Before the ride, cyclists spent months training, fundraising and getting to know the stories of their “Honored Child” – the seven kids who have or are battling cancer that make up this year’s Ride for a Child Honored Children. The riders and kids first met at a pizza party to kick off the training and fundraising season, and then again for the traditional “Ride Out”, where cyclists and honored children take a ride together. Learn all about the Honored Children and riders and more details at our Ride for a Child website.

What is Ride For A Child?

Twenty-one years ago, Candlelighters family member Dick Hartung rode in Cycle Oregon in honor of his daughter, Jill. During his ride, he started a fundraising appeal that went out to his family, friends, and business associates. The ride was a huge success. Not only did he challenge himself and conquer the week of riding, he honored Jill’s life by enriching the lives of other families impacted by childhood cancer. In 2002, Dick raised over $12,000. Now, with a goal of $195,000 in 2022, Ride For A Child has raised millions for Candlelighters For Children With Cancer and continues to be Candlelighters’ largest fundraiser of the year. Learn more about Dick and his motivation in his own words, here.
