A Message from the Executive Director
I am excited to report that the first few months of 2026 have been packed with uplifting programmatic activities as well as fundraising initiatives. In terms of programs, in March we launched a survivorship affinity group for adult survivors (21+) of pediatric cancer who are currently living in Oregon, held our first-ever moms’ retreat in April, hosted two gatherings with our Luminaries teen group, hosted our annual bowling event with our Latino families, and provided monthly catered meals at Doernbecher and Randall Children’s hospitals, amongst other events hosted by our incredible volunteer-run chapters across the state.
Our survivorship affinity group has been a long time in the making and we are thrilled to expand this initiative. The goal of the group is for adult survivors of pediatric cancer to find community by attending various events hosted by Candlelighters throughout the year. Our first-ever retreat for moms was held at the Balanced Active Recovery Wellness Center in Hood River. It was an opportunity for 10 moms to have a day for themselves and experience a sauna and cold plunge, guided yoga and meditation, compression chairs, and a delicious, healthy meal. This retreat not only provided an opportunity for moms to recharge but also created a safe space for bonding and building a support network. We will definitely be hosting more moms’ retreats in the near future!
As for fundraising initiatives, we have been planning our annual Ride for a Child which will take place at the end of August in Southern Oregon, recruiting sponsors, riders and honored children, held a very successful online Giving Day and silent auction in which we raised over $24,000, and are in the midst of planning our first annual golf tournament, Candlelighters Invitational: Par for a Purpose which will take place on May 28 at RedTail Golf Center in Beaverton! If you love to golf, please consider joining us! There are a few remaining spots!
Being a valued partner for families battling pediatric cancer in Oregon and SW Washington is our primary objective. With the support of individual donors, foundations and corporate partners, we are able to be there for families every step of the way. We invite you to check out our new website to explore the multiple ways you can get involved and make a huge difference in the lives of local families facing the unimaginable.
As a quick reminder, next year we will be celebrating 50 years of Candlelighters! We hope you will join us during our festivities and will keep you posted on ways that you can be a part of the celebrations.
